25 years of photographing the Quiet Corner

Life in Connecticut’s Quiet Corner

We Complain About It… But It’s Still Ours: Life in Connecticut’s Quiet Corner

Sometimes You Have to Leave to Truly See It

I’ve heard people say there’s not much going on in this quiet corner of Connecticut, or that things move a little slower here—and maybe they do. But sometimes I think you don’t fully see a place until you’ve stepped away from it.

After graduating from photography school, I moved away to a faster-paced area. Everything felt bigger, busier, louder. But one thing I noticed right away? You could go through an entire day and not see a single familiar face. No quick conversations, no unexpected run-ins… just constant motion.

When I came back to this area, I saw it differently. Not in a big, dramatic way—but in all the little ways that matter. The kind of places where you walk in and feel comfortable right away. The conversations that happen without planning them. The feeling that you’re not just passing through—you’re part of something.

I started to notice how much heart there is here. The coffee shops where people actually slow down. The restaurants you almost want to keep to yourself. The small businesses that aren’t just businesses—they’re people, relationships, and stories. That’s what makes this quiet corner of Connecticut feel like such a hidden gem.

It’s also why I love having my photography business here. I get to work with families, seniors, and local businesses—not just in my hometown, but throughout the surrounding communities. And over time, those clients become familiar faces… the kind you run into at a game, a coffee shop, or just out and about. That kind of connection means everything to me.

Being part of a community like this also means showing up in other ways. Supporting local charities. Helping create events that bring people together. That’s exactly what we’re doing with our Barks & Blooms event on May 17th—a day built around pets, people, and giving back. We even kicked it off with a pet photo contest, which has been such a fun way to get everyone involved while supporting a great cause.

If you’ve been thinking about joining in, there’s still time. You can schedule a session here:

At the end of the day, it’s not about how big a place is or how fast it moves. It’s about how it feels. And this quiet corner of Connecticut? It feels like connection, familiarity, and home… in all the best ways.
