What to expect at your session
Once you have your session date, you will want to start planning everything you will need for it. Be sure to have all your clothes ready and ironed the day prior. If you have small children try not to get stressed or feel rushed, children pick up on our emotions very quickly and can start to feel uneasy about the session if they sense you are.
HAIR & MAKEUP
Don’t try a new hairstyle just for your session; have it cut about a week before your appointment. Fresh, natural makeup as well as “evening” makeup photograph well.
Problems with glasses can lead to extra retouching charges. We can remove normal glare on glasses, but tinted lenses cannot be lightened even with artwork. If your glasses are tinted or exceptionally thick, they can distort the way the camera photographs the eye. In this case, you should ask your optometrist for a pair of plain glass frames to wear for your portrait session.
In a family group, proper clothing coordination is critical. When decorating a home, a major concern is to coordinate the colors and tones of the walls, carpets, drapes, and furniture. Similar coordination is necessary when selecting clothing for a group portrait. Choose clothing in the same tonal ranges so that no single member of the family stands out because the clothing is too light or bright as compared to the rest of the group. Bold stripes, plaids, checks, and prints are visually confusing and do not photograph well.
Frequently Asked Questions
A. Our studio is located in the Beautiful Quiet Corner of CT. We are located at 179 Hartford pike in Dayville, CT
A: At Charleen’s, we believe in the permanence of high quality printed wall art, albums and prints. But we also want photos on our phones and for social media. So at Charleens, you get both high quality prints and phone resolution digitals, based on the package you choose.
A: For over 19 years, Charleen has been based on quality. If it has our name on it, it must be perfect. And made to last. The only way to maintain and control that quality is limit who and how our work is printed. So we do all of our own printing.
A: Photo shoots are often booked ahead. Depending on time of year, it can take anywhere from 2 to 4+ weeks to get a photo shoot. You portraits are typically ready to be viewed and ordered from in 4-7 business days. Finished print orders normally take 4-6 weeks to complete.
A: That totally depends on what you want. Some invest $500, some invest $2000. If you budget $1200, that will cover all of your basic needs. But don’t be surprised if you love them all and want to buy more.
A: Payment at Charleen’s is broken up, making it easier to get what you want. Your photoshoot fee is due when you schedule your session. The day of the session any remaining fees/retainers to your session/collection are due. When you order, we deduct your initial retainer toward your order balance. At the time of order, half of any remaining balances are due. The final remaining balance is due upon delivery/pickup.
A: As a general rule, your outfits select the backgrounds. We always look to match your sets, backgrounds and locations to your wardrobe. We ALWAYS invite your preferences as to what you like. So tell us what you like!
A: We are at Mother Nature’s mercy. If it’s cloudy, or looks like rain, that’s OK. No worries. If you are scheduled for a Classic, Creative, or Luxe session with outdoor portraits, and there is a high probability of rain, we will call you and reschedule your portrait session the day before. Unless you want to bring an umbrella and have fun in the rain! Express sessions are not available for rescheduling; these sessions will take place in the studio rain or shine.
A: We work with a short list of stylists that we have approved of. You may opt to use their services if you like. We do not charge, we put you in touch and you pay their fees direct to them unless you are selecting our Luxe collection.
A: Absolutely! We encourage all of those for our Luxe, Creative & Classic sessions! Activities cover much more than main stream school activities. Maybe it’s dance, art, books, swimming, sports or gaming. If you want to include your car, make sure it’s clean. Unless it’s a Jeep – the dirtier the better there! We will help you plan out what you might bring during our zoom consultation.
A: Some schools require that you use “their” photographer so the photos all look the same. Of course you can purchase from whomever you want and do not have to buy from them. If your school allows you to turn in your own photo, yes! We will take care of you and supply them with any photos they need. Just let us know if they have any specific requirement.
