Barks & Blooms Pet Event in Killingly CT

Barks & Blooms: A Beautiful Day Celebrating Pets, People, and Community

The Barks and Blooms pet event brought pets, families, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and our community together for a joyful day in Killingly, CT. What started as an idea to create something positive for pets and people became a beautiful celebration of community, connection, and giving back. Some events come together because of planning, schedules, vendors, and lots of behind-the-scenes details.

Others become something even more meaningful.

Our Barks & Blooms event turned into one of those days. It was the kind of day that reminded us why community matters, why local support is so powerful, and why pets have such a special way of bringing people together.

From the very beginning, Barks & Blooms was created to be more than just a pet-friendly event. Instead, we wanted to create something joyful, welcoming, and meaningful for families, pet owners, local businesses, rescues, shelters, and our community as a whole.

Thanks to everyone who showed up, participated, volunteered, sponsored, voted, shared, and cheered us on, that vision truly came to life.

The Day Began With a Pack Walk

Barks & Blooms started with a wonderful Pack Walk with Happy Hounds, and it was extremely well attended. It was such a beautiful way to begin the day.

There were happy dogs, smiling families, wagging tails, and a strong sense of community right from the start. In many ways, the walk set the perfect tone for everything that followed.

Seeing so many people come together with their pets was exactly the kind of energy we hoped this event would bring.

The Main Event

After the Pack Walk, the main Barks & Blooms event began at 12:00 with music, vendors, demonstrations, and plenty of opportunities for people and pets to enjoy the afternoon together.

Guests were able to visit with local vendors, connect with pet-friendly businesses, learn from demonstrations, and enjoy a day designed around the special bond between pets and their people.

In addition, we had several fun activities throughout the day, including our Pet Parade and Costume Contest. The creativity was absolutely adorable, and we were thrilled to celebrate first, second, and third place winners.

The fun continued with our Dog Trick Contest, where we had a first and second place winner showing off some very impressive skills. As always, it was wonderful to see each pet’s personality shine.

A Very Special Thank You to Our Volunteers

Events like this do not happen because of one person or one business. They happen because people step up and help.

We were so grateful to have wonderful volunteers from our local high schools supporting the event. Throughout the day, they helped vendors set up, directed guests, handed out prizes, and kept things moving smoothly.

Their kindness, energy, and willingness to help made such a difference. We are incredibly thankful for the time they gave and the positive spirit they brought to Barks & Blooms.

Thank You to Our Sponsors

We also want to give a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors.

Sponsors help turn ideas into real community experiences. Because of their support, we were able to bring the Barks & Blooms vision to life and create something positive, welcoming, and impactful for pets, families, vendors, rescues, and our community.

We are truly grateful for the businesses and individuals who believed in this event and chose to support it.

The Barks & Blooms Pet Photo Contest

One of the biggest highlights of the event was our Barks & Blooms Pet Photo Contest.

Leading up to the event, families brought their pets into Charleen’s Portrait Studio to be photographed on spring-inspired backgrounds. Each contestant brought their own personality to the portraits, from playful expressions to sweet, soulful faces.

Voting took place online before the event and continued in person during Barks & Blooms. As a result, every entry, vote, and share helped support the mission behind the event.

Together, through contest entry fees and voting, the pet photo contest raised $2,270 to help support our community, local rescues, and future pet-friendly and family-friendly events.

That is something truly worth celebrating.

Congratulations to Our Pet Photo Contest Winners

We are so excited to congratulate this year’s Barks & Blooms Pet Photo Contest winners:

First Place: Lulu of the Lussier Family
Second Place: Julie of the Gaudreau Family
Tied for Third Place: Gracie, Macy, and Lucy of the Pulkkinen Family

Congratulations to all of our winners. We also want to thank every contestant who participated. Each pet brought something special to the contest, and it was wonderful to see so many people rally behind them.

Supporting Rescues, Community, and Future Events

At the heart of Barks & Blooms is a simple idea: when people come together, we can create something meaningful.

The money raised through the pet photo contest will help support local rescues, community efforts, and future positive events designed for pets and families. However, this was never just about one afternoon. It was also about creating momentum for more connection, more support, and more opportunities to bring people together.

Every person who entered the contest, voted, shared the link, attended the event, sponsored, volunteered, or simply showed up helped make that possible.

Thank You for Being Part of Barks & Blooms

To everyone who came out and participated in Barks & Blooms, thank you.

We are grateful to the families who brought their pets, the vendors who joined us, the volunteers who helped throughout the day, the sponsors who believed in the vision, and every person who voted, shared, cheered, and supported the event.

Because of you, Barks & Blooms became a celebration of pets, people, community, and giving back.

We cannot wait to continue building more positive, pet-friendly, family-friendly experiences for our community.
